About Al Cota

Experience

I have 30+ years of experience as a Technical Writer, Systems Administrator, and Educator. I offer profound value to organizations needing someone who gets up to speed quickly with their communications.

I focus research on current Education, Computer Information Technology, and DEI. I have a BA in English, varied coursework in computing from Stanford University, and a Masters in Secondary Education from the University of New Mexico.

I wrote for Honeywell, General Mills, and Silicon Valley start-ups. As a Systems Administrator for the Stanford Graduate Library, I assisted the Foreign Language department to navigate computer technology implementation.

Later, working at the Stanford Law School Library, I established their new computer lab from inception to use. Back in New Mexico, my company set up small business computing needs for various legal, medical, and non-profit businesses. Finally, I taught Secondary English for 17 years in public, private, and charter schools.

Chalk Ink Write, LLC, is a micro-business in Santa Fe, New Mexico, serving all local, national, and global communities alike.

What Makes Me a Good Writer

Stanford University provided gifts for learning Computer coding starting in 1979, as well as writing on a variety of subjects. I transitioned to English and became a Technical Writer, writing about information technology hardware, software, and procedures. I wrote for Fortune 500 companies and small businesses alike. Resiliently leveraging my skills, I returned to work at Stanford and trained in Systems Administration. After working in various university settings and using those skills in my own business, I became an Educator and taught English, AP Language and Composition, Mass Communications, and award-winning Journalism to thousands. Surviving the second pandemic in my life shows me I need to work only for myself and value my unique wisdom, experiences, and benefits of being a lifelong learner.
